The UNC Students Extra Drive Storage System “EDriveKo”

Background

The UNC Students Extra Drive Storage System “EDriveKo” is a centralized file storage system designed for UNC students and faculty members. The Idea of “EDriveKo” is to secure the students data on a centralized file storage system and can easily see the file present on the other workstation, providing authorization to do so. It saves the time which is wasted in copying a file from one system to another, by using a storage device. In addition to that, students/users can access or update their information/file stored in a virtual drive, making it up-to-date and accurate.

The “EDriveKo” is a File sharing over local area networks (LANs) technology that has become an integral part of enterprise computing. Over 20 years ago, personal computer users realized the benefits of abandoning "sneakernet" by connecting individual computers into a network. This allowed more efficient file sharing and project collaboration for members of a workgroup who were only a cable length away, typically in the same room or building.

“EDriveKo” is not only limited to students, faculty members can also apply for this account if they want to manage and set the schedules of submission of their students e-projects by setting its account access time and date. Also, the said services will be available and accessible by the users from the time they applied until the last day of their stay in the University.
This new innovation is a solution to following problems encountered by the students and faculty members in their file management within the Computer Laboratory and as follows:

1. Organized File and Projects of the students for easy checking and evaluation of the teachers
2. Scheduled time submission of projects and exercises to minimize the “copy-paste” attitude or copying others worked.
3. Minimized or even eliminate the virus propagation within the laboratory due to the use of infected flash drives.
4. Fast and easy retrieval of files and data
